Loose Leaf Tea

I like to think the things we love and the experiences we enjoy are our love notes to the people who introduced us to them. For my love of loose leaf tea, it all started with a trip to Holland to see my cousin.

She collects loose leaf teas and I fell in love with the storage in her kitchen displaying the little pots and the colours and the smells of each one. It was like opening a box of chocolates that I never knew existed!

When I get home from the Library I like to curl up and take half an hour to an hour to have a proper loose leaf tea in my little glass tea cup and saucer. If my family are around I’ll have a chat and if not I’ll enjoy the silence and the smell of whichever tea I’ve chosen that day.

It’s rituals like these that make each day - no matter how mundane - feel fun and decadent.

The Tea and Biscuit Club

As well as being an online shop, The Tea and Biscuit Club have a bricks and mortar store in Arundel which is a must-visit for anyone who loves tea or wants some personal recommendations and the joy of actually being in a tea shop.

I heard about them via another loose tea enthusiast and the name was so enticing I had to go there and see it for myself!

I also bought my latest teapot from them, it’s glass and has lasted the dishwasher as well as regular use (I’ve now got my eye on their 2 cup magenta teapot).

My personal favourite teas from their collection:

The Wee Tea Company

Scottish, independent and all blended by hand - what’s not to love? I love ordering black teas from The Wee Tea Company (and before I discovered them I didn’t go within sniffing distance of black tea) because they’re always so comforting. It’s like being in front of a roaring fire in the highlands on a chilly day after going for a long walk.

Jing Tea

My first teas as well as my first teapot and teacup with a saucer were from Jing given to me for Christmas one year. I can’t recommend the teacup enough, it’s shatterproof and as someone who can be rather clumsy it’s a godsend to have one that can’t end up as a shard in someone’s foot.

Jing is great for luxurious green and Oolong blends. Especially if you’re someone who enjoys impressing guests with visuals! I love their flowering teas for that wow factor and as a fun treat (especially on a glum day).
