Book girl Summer
This Summer I have been having a book girl summer.
The requirements of this are not to have a six pack, go on loads of dates, climb all three peaks in the UK or improve my pores; the only requirement is to read as many books as I like and go to as many bookstores as I can to get that book smell embedded on my brain for future rainy days (imagine, rain!).
No money needs to be spent either because I am ordering all of the books I want to read through the Library. Isn’t that neat? And since it has been too hot this Summer to do anything except mulch on the days I am not working, it’s a way to mulch from the moral high ground with a glass of wine. Yes, I am laying down on a sun-bed and I haven’t moved in several hours but I am reading so you can’t get annoyed about it.
Having a dedicated book girl summer is a great way to explore new genres and generally get through all the cute reads I’ve wanted to get through in the Winter but never did. Romance novels I was too depressed to indulge in while it was grim weather and the season of coupledom? Bring them on now! I’d love to say that I’m also getting through all the mystery and thriller novels I’ve put off for the last few years but I get freaked out so easily it doesn’t matter how late the sun goes down, it’s just not happening.
I am conveniently denying the obvious point that every season is a book girl season for me. Hence why I am needing a stronger prescription on my glasses.
However I’m back in the phase of finishing a book in a day and staying up until 12am to read one more page (a LOT of iced coffee has been consumed this Summer partly due to this) and there is nothing more lovely than being so into a book that you then you wake up in the morning with it in your bed like a non-guilty one night stand.
So, what are you reading this Summer? I have discovered Lucy Score thanks to a friend of mine who gave me By a Thread and now I am eating up the Knockemount series. Yes the grammar and the spelling is sometimes off but back off you pedants I'm having a lovely time.
I have also gone back and am re-reading the books I loved as a child as well as the ones I wanted to like but never really understood. I am also reading all of the books that were recommended to me as a child but I never read them for some reason. Sometimes the reason for this immediately becomes obvious (cue The wind in the willows by Kenneth Grahame), other times I suddenly find myself with a new favourite (Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren).
Are you having a reading binge summer full of no-guilt late nights turning just one more page? Let me know what you’re reading and if you want any recommendations.
